Cultivating Curiosity for Research
Science for Kids is an outreach program that introduces primary and lower secondary schoolchildren in Tromsø and Northern Norway to Arctic science in fun, engaging, and interactive ways. Through hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and storytelling, the program connects children with real scientists and introduces them to the wonders of the Arctic environment—its wildlife, climate, oceans, and more.
The aim is to inspire curiosity, build awareness of the region’s unique ecosystems, and plant the seeds for the next generation of Arctic researchers, innovators, and environmental stewards. Science for Kids takes place during the Arctic Frontiers conference week and is run in close collaboration with local schools, science institutions, and enthusiastic researchers who volunteer their time and energy.
Whether learning how sea ice forms, exploring the mysteries of the deep ocean, or building simple models to understand climate change, children come away from Science for Kids with new knowledge and a sense of excitement about the Arctic—and their potential place in its future.
